Places to run in Colorado....?
Runners
Roost recommends Morrison's Mount Falcon Park
Mount Falcon has two entrances. One is from Highway 8,
just outside of Morrison. From Morrison, drive west on Bear Creek Canyon Road
(the road that runs through the center of Morrison). Turn left (South) on to
Highway 8 (Highway 8 is the light on the west end of Morrison). Proceed approx.
1 mile and turn right (West) onto Forest Ave., then right on Vine (North - you
should see the parking lot at this point). This entrance is by far the harder.
There is no warm-up as the trail climbs immediately out of the parking lot for a
climb of over 1000 ft. It is a narrow, steady, uphill ride. It has
technically difficult spots, but mostly, it's hard because of the gage (note:
the "Turkey Trot" trail is off limits to mountain bikers). If you
don't climb up you don't get the thrill of coming down, though. The second
entrance is up the Bear Creek highway. Instead of turning at the west end of
Morrison, proceed westward into the town of Kittridge. Turn left on the Parmelee
Gulch road and follow the sighs to the upper parking lot. The most difficult
trail on the top side, is the Parmalee trail. It is a valley trail, so the ride
down is fast and technical, and the ride up is slow and it is sometimes
necessary to carry your bike. It is also worth a ride around Devil's elbow for
the beautiful pine forest.
