About the Roost Recycling Program
Concern for the environment and finding positive ways to help the environment where possible is the goal of the Roost Recycling program. Keeping shoes out landfills is one way of doing that. It can take up to 1,000 years for a midsole to break down in landfill environments.

Runners Roost has two main ways to keep shoes out of landfills:
    1. Donate shoes that still have like to great causes, like the Denver Rescue Mission.
    2. Recycle shoes via programs like Nike’s Reuse‐A‐Shoe program.

Nike has been recycling shoes since 1990, and officially opened the Reuse‐A‐Shoe program to retailers in 2002. Runners Roost has been sending shoes to Nike for more than five years, recycling on average 40 – 75 lbs of shoes a week.

What does Nike do with the shoes? They grind them up to make running tracks, kids playgrounds, and playing surfaces for tennis, basketball, and turf sports worldwide. To learn more about Nike's recycling process, visit www.nikereuseashoe.com

The program has been in place at Runners Roost for years, however the volume of shoes and folks taking advantage of the program has more than doubled in the past year. The increase can be attributed to ads and coupons providing up to $10.00 off a new shoe purchase when shoes are recycled. Some customers have dropped off more than 30 pairs at a time!
