Places to run in Colorado...?
Runners Roost recommends Waterton
Canyon
To get to the Waterton Canyon
trail follow Wadsworth Blvd. south from C-470. Pass the entrance to Chatfield
Reservoir and look for the entrance signs for the Waterton Canyon Recreation
Area. The trail is the first six miles of the Colorado Trail which goes from here
to Durango. The trail follows the South Platte River for it's entire length. The
grade is very gentle to the Strontia Springs Reservoir Dam where most people end
the ride. There are several picnic tables and bathrooms along the trail. Since
the trail follows the river upstream for the ride in, the ride back is mostly
downhill.
Water Canyon is located approximately a 30 minute drive (SW) of downtown
Denver. The run up to Strontia Dam (12.5 miles round trip)
is an extremely popular training route for Coloradans!
